Uncertainty happens when you don’t know what to expect. For example, you didn’t know several wars were coming. That happened in 2022. But after a 2023 full of surprises, I think it is fair to say that uncertainty is not the word anymore. I like better to use “the changes”. But this time, we are talking about deep changes. They are so profound, that some say is a change of Era. Others, including me, like to say this is going even further: we are starting an ERA OF CHANGES.
There is no such thing called “normal”, or “stable”. Whatever you will face, it will be in motion. And soon will change. So we better get ready to develop our ability to adapt.
Also an Era of Changes requires to be able to take decisions faster (technology is key in this), with less information (again, technology helps), and also, be able to step back if you find out that you haven’t got the right path. In this sense, therefore, humility is mandatory.
In all these changes AI plays a key role. The best way to automatize decisions is giving such responsibility to a trained algorithm, call it AI. Decisions will be taken faster and more reliably, “with no emotions involved”. This scenario is frightening for many. Can you imagine that a car that is inevitably going to a crash, “decides” how to crash so “some” lives can be saved (which ones and why)? Scary.
And not only that. An AI will simulate all the scenarios, controlling a vast number of variables, will find out what are the most probable to happen, will be able to avoid the scenarios that impact the worst or choose the one that benefits the best … at a speed that a human brain cannot even imagine. Yes, AI needs to be regulated. And soon because the adoption rate in our day-to-day professional lives of AI is impressive.
However, an algorithm is just useless if it doesn’t come with computational power (eventually quantic) together with fast, safe and reliable communications. This is a trend that has been there for years. But due to protectionist policies, in line with what is happening with geostrategic battles, and specifically, several different views on how personal data should be treated, raises a concept of data sovereignty: Now Government and Enterprises require their data to be at reach of their territory. The concept of unlocated Cloud is simply, not enough. For some, it is time to leave in the cloud some applications, but the real core ones, need to be on premise again. The ball returns back in the pendulum theory. Motion. A permanent change.
Acacia TI is also changing. It could be no different. We change in order to keep doing the same… but better. Our aim is to help our customers to become better business thanks to technology.
An Era of Change is coming. Let’s embrace it. Welcome 2024!
